online therapy in portland, oregon.

I provide online therapy for those in Portland or the state of Oregon who want accessible therapy on their terms.

Since the pandemic, I have discovered just how accessible online therapy can be. For those with chronic illness, those who live in rural areas, and/or those who simply want therapy from the comfort of their own home without sacrificing quality of care, online therapy does the job.

What’s awesome about online therapy is that it’s just as effective as in-person therapy, and you don’t even have to leave your home. What matters the most is the relationship you have with your therapist (me), which is why I offer free 15-minute consultations. Let’s get to know each other and see if working together is a good fit!

how online therapy helps:

01

Get “unstuck” in areas of your life that feel overwhelming

02

Understand patterns in your life that get in the way of your healing

03

Discover your most authentic self to live your fullest life

my approaches to online therapy:

Skill Building: I always say, you don’t know what you don’t know. Therapy is an amazing space to learn skills to help you cope with emotions and the tasks of everyday life!

Mindfulness: Don’t worry, I won’t force you to meditate (unless you want to)! Mindfulness comes in all shapes and forms to help you slow down and experience life to the fullest.

Self-Compassion: The way you speak to yourself matters. In our work together, we will examine your patterns of self-talk and self-understanding. Self-compassion allows you to develop a respectful and caring relationship with yourself and others.

Internal Family Systems: There are so many parts of you that are serving you in different ways. We will take a deeper look into the parts of you that are helping, those that are hurting, and those that might do a little of both!

if your compassion does not include yourself, it is incomplete.

online therapy faq’s

+ how does online therapy work?

It's very similar to in-person therapy. The only difference is that all you need is a secure internet connection and a computer, phone, or tablet. From there, find a safe, confidential space, and I will provide you with access to the client portal on my website where you can login to join our virtual therapy session each week. You can be wherever feels safe and confidential for you. If that's at home in your PJ's in bed, then that's perfect. If that's in a conference room or your car, that's also great.

+ can my pets be in the room with me?

Absolutely. Yes. Please!

+ is online therapy effective?

While a lot of folks feel like there is a different energy to online therapy, research shows that it is actually just as effective as in-person therapy. What is most important is actually the relationship you have with your therapist. I always stress how important fit is with your therapist, and that is one of the biggest indicators as to how effective therapy will be. Of course you have to put in the work too, but the therapeutic relationship is a really important foundation.

+ do you only work with eating disorders?

Not at all. I also specialize in working with folks with ADHD, chronic illness, anxiety, and those in the lgbtq+ community. If you are looking for support for something outside those specialties, I’m happy to chat with you on a free 20-minute consult call and I’ll be upfront about whether or not I feel I can support you with what you’re needing!

+ are our calls on video or phone?

It's completely up to you. Both are just as effective, so it comes down to which feels more comfortable and accessible. You can choose to change your mind at any time. Our free 20-minute consultation will be by phone.

+ do you treat children or adolescents?

At this time I primarily work with adults and adolescents ages 16+.

+ how do you know you’re the right therapist for me?

I don’t! That’s why I offer a free 20-minute consult call for us to get to know each other before choosing whether or not it will be a good fit. I recommend 1-3 sessions for us to get to know each other if we decide to move forward because it can always be awkward starting a new therapy relationship! If it ever doesn’t feel like a good fit, I’m happy to provide referrals to other trusted therapists.

+ do you take insurance?

I do not accept insurance, which protects your privacy and allows me to keep my rates appropriate. Paying privately means that your treatment is solely between us and your mental health diagnosis and other information is not shared with an insurance company. You can learn more about my rates and insurance reimbursement here.

hi, i’m Lauren! i provide online therapy in portland, oregon.

Hi! I’m Lauren (she/her), a queer, neurodivergent therapist and intuitive eating coach who supports individuals who want to break free from the rules of life they were told they “should” follow.

I’ve been there - I lived my life based on how I thought I was “supposed” to. All I wanted was to be able to achieve being the most desireable, productive, and “good” person in any room. I realized quickly how not only impossible that is, but also how miserable that is. Although my journey and my story will be different from yours, I’m here to help you ditch the “shoulds” and live a life that you can actually, well, live.
